Since its establishment in 1972, the focus of Nagra lay on research and in proving the fundamental feasibility of the safe disposal of radioactive waste in Switzerland. With the onset of the the Sectoral Plan for "Deep Geological Repositories" in December 2009, which allows for a transparent, comprehensible and binding selection procedure, the attention shifted from pure research to the planning of actual repositories. This change was to be reflected in the company organization.
Based on interviews and critical analysis of the company and its structures we made suggestions for adapting the organization. As a first step in the change process we coached selected project managers and schooled them in the use of project management tools.
